Handcrafted looms were constructed with a minimum of woodworking tools, and in
general, had few metal parts. Wedges secured the assembled pieces. The weavers
depressed foot pedals to change the sheds and threw the shuttle manually.

linda Bertanzetti from Ohio found one of these early looms while visiting the former
Soviet Union. This early Russian loom has an overhead beater with bore staff brake
and single wheel pullies.
